Honeytrap
Blind
[4.25]
(Words by David Fisher, Music by David Fisher and Neil McCarthy)

There’s a ghost in the church where the bells used to ring
Since they called off the search when your future went missing
The hopes of a lifetime are gone in a flash
When you throw out a lifeline and wait for the splash

To the edge of the world, to the end of the path
Where the wind in the soul snuffs the fire in the heart
Time turns the heat down – Don’t be afraid
To hide from the sunshine and rest in the shade

Blind to the many, blind to the few
Blind to he beauty, blind to the view
Blind to the work, blind to the play
Blind to the circus day after day
Deep down the mine where stars don’t shine
You were blind, blind, blind

It’s a lonely parade when you’re down in the hole
As the light starts to fade – Where’s the life and the soul?
Snoring beside you, drunk at the wheel
Wrapped up inside you – Don’t break the seal

Blind to the cares, blind to the dreams
Blind to the snares, and blind to the schemes
Blind to the taste, blind to the smell
Blind to the waste – You’re under a spell
Then you find the ties that bind make you blind, blind, blind
All down the line, you’re wasting time, now you’re blind, blind, blind

Notes:

A haunting piano tune written by my pal Neil McCarthy to which I have added some of the bleakest lyrics I have ever written. For many years I suffered from very debilitating depression which is where this comes from - anyone who has been there will understand - the rest of you will consider it self-indulgent rubbish. Incidentally, if you're reading this and you feel this way, things got better for me many years ago, as Tommy Cooper would say "Just like that!" - things can change.
