Honeytrap
The World’s Smallest Violin
[4.42]
(Words and Music by Rory Fellowes and David Fisher)

Don’t ask me how we came to live like this
We got here anyhow
The Velvet Glove defeats the Iron Fist
But it doesn’t matter now

There are no victims here – only volunteers
The World’s Smallest Violin is playing in you ears

Don’t wanna hear about your mother-in-law
Don’t wanna hear about your debts
Don’t wanna hear about the blood on the floor
Don’t wanna hear about the trouble down the laundrette

There are no victims here – only volunteers
The World’s Smallest Violin is playing in you ears

And it’s so sad and it’s so sad and it’s so sad
All the things we say when we say goodbye
Like “I’ll never forget you” and “We can be friends”
And “I surely will love you until the day you die”

You wrecked your health to deal those stocks and shares
You lost your good name and your job
It’s far to late to meet the Spirit on the Stairs
It’s far to late to stop the world and tell me where to get off

There are no victims here – only volunteers
The World’s Smallest Violin is playing in you ears

Notes:

This is another co-written song - this time with animator Rory Fellowes (brother of Oscar winning actor/writer Julian Fellowes) - Rory's last musical output was a solo single in 1969 on Simon Napier Bell's SNB label! He also wrote lyrics for singer/songwriter Tim Hollier whose material has recently been reissued on an eponymous CD. You can also get Rory's single "Nina" on the compilation CD "Sunday Sunshine: the World of SNB Records". Rory works now in computer animation - programmes like "Captain Scarlet" but he used to do stop-motion work such as "Hatty Town" and even worked on the model work used in Filmfair's "The Wombles".

Tim Bradshaw did some beautiful lap steel work on this one.

Jez used the same synth sound on this song that he used when mixing David Bowie's song "Everyone Says Hi" from the album "Heathen".
